Some specific points:

“Interestingly, Tableau, JMP, QlikView, and Spotfire allow a write-back of modified data entries into the databases.” — in 2017 when the survey was conducted Tableau did not allow write back to databases

Complex data points — I feel Power BI being able to store images / sound in it’s data model to be slightly misleading given you can’t analyse them in Power BI (to my knowledge). Tableau could similarly connect to a database with these complex data types but would be unable to do analysis without third party help to convert the data into measures and dimensions that could be analysed.

Visualisation: “For example, Tableau offers an entire SDK for writing custom C/C++, Java, or Python code.” This is does not relate to visualisation and is unrelated to the point being made. Further though the paper misses the point that almost any visualisation can be built in Tableau without requiring further extensibility or third-party plug-ins (which may be unsupported) an example can be seen in Andy Kriebel’s visual vocabulary: https://public.tableau.com/en-us/s/gallery/visual-vocabulary

Tableau does support Client / Server

“Detailed feature overviews can be found in the appendix tables http://commercialtools.dbvis.de/appendix” — this link does’t work
